When you’re finished, you’ll have a report you can use with your own MEDITECH Data Repository after you return home from the conference.

The atypical database schema of the DR isn’t quite what Power BI expects when connecting to a data source, so we’ll look at different connectivity options and different ways you can use SQL code to efficiently present data to Power BI. We’ll talk about data models, the heart of any Power BI-based report, and demonstrate how to build them effectively in Data Repository.

If you can bring a laptop, we’ll guide you through building a real BAR-based data model and report with Power BI Desktop, while demonstrating some of the software’s niftier features, like slicers and drill-through capability, that will give your reports a great user experience. If you don’t have a laptop, don’t worry, you can follow along as our instructors show you how. When you’re finished, you’ll have a report you can use with your own MEDITECH Data Repository after you return home from the conference.

We’ll walk through the Power BI service options after your report is published, showing how you can use workspaces, apps, and dashboards to make reporting easy for your users while managing security and permissions securely. Finally, we’ll look at how you can keep your datasets current, connect to your on-premises servers using a gateway, and optionally manage report delivery using deployment pipelines.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of Power BI Desktop and service (online) tools and applications. Optionally, if they bring a laptop, attendees will gain first-hand knowledge of Power BI Desktop while they design their own report during the seminar.

Over the years CMS has focused on improving patient care by tying provider reimbursement to performance in quality programs. As a result, the Quality Payment Program (QPP) began January 1, 2017, requiring eligible clinicians to participate in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) if they were not part of an Advanced Alternative Payment Model. This workshop will explore the MIPS program structure and provider eligibility, as well as dive into each category’s requirements and key components associated with scoring. We’ll review real-world examples to tie all the presented information together. We’ll also review other reporting options under QPP and the future of MIPS.

We’ll provide an overview of the Power BI applications and services and explore how to use them with MEDITECH Data Repository. We’ll see real dashboard and report examples from facilities using the MEDITECH EHR to see how their IT departments are already using Power BI to share and analyze data.

Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital has transformed the informatics and reporting experience across our organization with Microsoft Power BI and Power Apps. In this session, we’ll demonstrate some of the real-world solutions we’ve built at NVRH, using the latest data visualization and services and applications from Microsoft. Whether the data is from MEDITECH Data Repository or any other system, Power BI makes it easy to seamlessly present interactive reports and dashboards that engage your users.

We will present and discuss three distinct data solutions we built to inform our leader’s decision-making process. Our materials management dashboard visualizes our current inventory, transactional history, and a dynamic interactive means to calculate our inventory days-on-hand. Next, we will showcase a custom app we built to display approximate wait times to inform our patients in the waiting room.  Finally, we will present a data tool that enables our leadership to dynamically update and view our daily department staffing issues in a centralized location.

Improving patient care and saving lives is the foundation of all performance and quality improvement measures across the healthcare continuum. In this education session, we’ll review ideas to consider for reducing medication errors, reducing hospital readmissions, and practicing responsible antibiotic stewardship by implementing best practices as they relate to important hospital inpatient measures and quality initiatives, including the hybrid HWR (hospital-wide readmissions) measure from CMS, NHSN’s antimicrobial use and resistance (AUR) reporting, and CMS’ Hospital Harm measures for both Severe Hyperglycemia and Severe Hypoglycemia.

How your hospital workflow documents and captures potential adverse events and other quality-related patient outcomes is likely different than guidelines defined within quality measure specifications and rules. We'll review some of the key criteria for newer quality measures and examine how you can plan to use MEDITECH and Data Repository to prepare for your hospital’s best outcomes.

This session will explore how disparate data available in your MEDITECH EHR system can be brought together and analyzed to provide insight into the scheduling and utilization efficiency of operating room resources. Your EHR collects hundreds of data points associated with scheduling, timing, activity, and outcomes of processes and procedures related to OR utilization. The challenge with deriving actionable information from this data is presenting and visualizing it in a manner that can quicky and easily identify what is working as anticipated, and what processes are breaking.
We will discuss how to identify where this data can be derived from within your EHR and how it can be brought together into datasets that allow for detailed analysis. We will review strategies for presenting this data and demonstrate the use of Microsoft’s ubiquitous Power BI interactive data visualization application to present thought-provoking OR metrics. Metrics reviewed will include surgeon and provider group efficiency comparisons, block utilization, identifying causes of late or overlapping scheduling, trends in OR utilization by specialty, and much more.
